FERRAGUDO

FerragudoFerragudo is smaller and more traditional than its neighbour Portimão across the estuary of the River Arade.  Many of the houses in picturesque Ferragudo are traditional fishing homes and look delightful set amid the terraced, hillside streets above the river front.

Ferragudo RiversideThe town is lined by palm-fringed gardens, which run alongside a narrow river inlet up to the main cobbled square.  There is a lovely square, with lots of cafe’s offering a good range of snacks and lunch menus. Around the corner on the quay there is a selection of restaurants with fantastic  views across the Arade and offering delicious, fresh fish dishes.

Ferragudo Beach and CastleThere are several beaches in the area and the nearest one to the village is Praia da Angrinha with the Fort of Sao Joao de Arade rising from the sands. Praia Grande and Praia do Pintadinho are also worth visiting. There are signposts for all of the the beaches and a car may be necessary for travelling further afield.

Ferragudo Harbour SceneThere are also lots of activities that will keep families of all ages entertained close to hand. The calm waters of the river are particularly good for windsurfing and other water sports. There are all sorts of boat trips from the river front in Portimão including fishing, excursions around the coastline and caves, dolphin watching or even a trip up the river to Silves.

Ferragudo is a scenic spot to enjoy a quiet holiday but with plenty of nearby amenities and activities if desired.
